South Sudan has reaffirmed its commitment to shaping Africa''s mining future as the country''s Minister of Mining, Hon. Losuba Ludoru Wongo , participated in the historic ratification and swearing-in ceremony of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) at the State House in Abuja, Nigeria .

The landmark ceremony, held in the presence of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu , marks a significant milestone in Africa''s collective effort to strengthen cooperation, improve mineral governance, and maximise the value of the continent''s vast natural resources.

During the ceremony, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially signed the Instrument of Ratification of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) Charter , formally assuming the position of Chairperson of the AMSG Heads of State General Assembly . The ratification signifies a new chapter in continental cooperation aimed at advancing Africa''s strategic mineral agenda through coordinated policies and shared development objectives.

The event also witnessed the inauguration of the Group''s ministerial and executive leadership. Hon. Dr. Henry Oladele , Nigeria''s Minister of Solid Minerals Development, was sworn in as Chairperson of the AMSG Ministerial Steering Committee , while His Excellency Moses Michael Engadu assumed office as the First Secretary-General of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group .

Strengthening Africa''s Strategic Mineral Agenda

The formal establishment of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group represents an important step towards creating a unified continental framework for responsible mineral resource management, regional cooperation, and value addition across Africa''s mining industry.

The AMSG seeks to promote strategic partnerships among African nations while encouraging local beneficiation, industrialisation, investment, and sustainable mining practices that maximise the socioeconomic benefits derived from the continent''s mineral wealth.

South Sudan''s Growing Continental Role

By witnessing the historic ratification ceremony, South Sudan reaffirmed its support for Africa''s collective vision of transforming mineral resources into drivers of economic development and regional prosperity.

The participation of Hon. Losuba Ludoru Wongo underscores South Sudan''s growing engagement in continental mining initiatives and reflects the country''s commitment to contributing to policy dialogue that promotes responsible resource governance, sustainable mining, and regional collaboration.

As South Sudan continues implementing reforms to modernise its mining sector and attract responsible investment, participation in high-level continental forums such as the AMSG reinforces the country''s ambition to become an active partner in shaping Africa''s mineral future.

A New Era for African Mineral Cooperation

The ratification of the AMSG Charter represents more than the establishment of a new regional institution—it signals Africa''s determination to take greater ownership of its mineral resources and to ensure that the continent derives greater value from its strategic minerals through cooperation, innovation, and industrial development.

For South Sudan, participation in this historic occasion reflects its vision of aligning national mining reforms with continental priorities while supporting initiatives that strengthen regional integration, promote sustainable resource management, and improve the livelihoods of African citizens.

As the Africa Minerals Strategy Group begins its new mandate, expectations are high that the organisation will play a transformative role in harmonising mineral policies, attracting investment, fostering knowledge exchange, and advancing a shared African vision for responsible and inclusive mineral development.

South Sudan''s presence at this landmark event demonstrates its determination to stand alongside fellow African nations in building a mining sector that delivers long-term economic growth, creates employment opportunities, and ensures that Africa''s mineral wealth becomes a lasting source of prosperity for generations to come.
