Nairobi, Kenya – April 28, 2026 — The Kenya Mining Investment Conference and Expo (MICE) officially opened in Nairobi on Monday, bringing together more than five hundred global delegates, investors, policymakers, and mining experts to discuss Africa’s growing role in the global green economy.

Held under the theme “Partnerships for Prosperity,” the two-day summit has positioned Nairobi as a strategic hub for dialogue on sustainable mineral development and investment across the continent. The conference comes at a time when global demand for critical minerals continues to rise due to the accelerating transition toward clean and renewable energy technologies.

The Republic of South Sudan was represented by the Minister of Mining, Hon. Losuba Wongo, who participated in a high-level ministerial panel focusing on regional cooperation and sustainable mining policies in East Africa.

During his address, Hon. Wongo emphasized South Sudan’s commitment to transforming its mining sector through value addition and industrial development. He stated that the government is moving away from the traditional export of raw minerals and is actively pursuing plans to establish a domestic gold refinery aimed at increasing the export of finished and high-value mineral products.

The Minister further highlighted ongoing government efforts to strengthen security in mining areas to create a safer and more stable environment for both local miners and international investors.

“South Sudan is committed to building a transparent and sustainable mining industry that contributes meaningfully to national economic growth,” he noted during the discussions.

The conference also featured more than thirty exhibitors showcasing modern and ethical mining technologies designed to improve environmental sustainability, operational efficiency, and responsible mineral extraction practices.

South Sudan’s participation at MICE 2026 reflects the country’s growing ambition to position itself as an attractive destination for responsible mining investment and regional mineral development partnerships within Africa’s emerging green economy.
