South Sudan has reaffirmed its commitment to regional cooperation and sustainable mineral development as the country participates in the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) Ministerial Steering Committee Meeting in Abuja, Nigeria.

Leading South Sudan’s delegation, the Minister of Mining, Hon. Losuba Ludoru Wongo , accompanied by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Mining, Hon. Deng Makuok Duyak , joined Ministers, policymakers, and industry leaders from across Africa in discussions aimed at shaping a unified vision for the continent’s mineral future.

Hosted in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, the high-level gathering serves as an important platform for advancing dialogue on how African nations can strengthen collaboration and maximise the value of the continent’s vast mineral wealth.

At the centre of the discussions are key priorities including sustainable mineral development, regional integration, responsible resource governance, and value addition to Africa’s natural resources —all viewed as critical pillars for accelerating industrialisation and long-term economic transformation across the continent.

Speaking during the engagement, Minister Losuba emphasised that Africa’s mineral resources must become a catalyst for economic diversification, industrial growth, and shared prosperity.

He highlighted the importance of stronger cooperation among African nations to ensure that mineral wealth generates greater value within the continent through local processing, investment promotion, technology transfer, and enhanced institutional capacity.

“The future of Africa’s mineral sector lies in collective action, strategic partnerships, and creating value that benefits our people and economies,” the Minister underscored.

The Ministerial Steering Committee meeting also provides participating countries with an opportunity to align mineral policies, exchange technical expertise, strengthen investment frameworks, and explore mechanisms to improve competitiveness across Africa’s mining sector.

For South Sudan, participation in the AMSG platform reflects the country’s broader ambition to position its mineral sector as a key driver of economic growth while integrating into regional and continental mineral development agendas.

As deliberations continue in Abuja, expectations remain high that the meeting will deliver actionable strategies capable of advancing responsible mineral governance, attracting investment, and unlocking sustainable growth opportunities across Africa.

South Sudan’s engagement in the forum signals a growing commitment to ensuring that the continent’s mineral resources contribute not only to extraction, but to long-term industrial development, regional prosperity, and inclusive economic transformation.
