Stockholm, Wednesday (October 16, 2024) - Akobo Minerals, a Scandinavian gold exploration and mining company operating in Ethiopia, has announced the successful production of its first gold bar from the Segele Mine.
This achievement marks a significant milestone as the company advances its operational plans for gold production.
The initial gold bar, weighing 1.4 kg, was smelted from approximately 170 tons of lower-grade material collected and processed from development tunnels located at the edge of the Segele ore body.
This first batch yielded an encouraging average grade of 8 g/t. However, it is still early in the process to provide definitive figures regarding the recovery rate or gold purity, as the operation is in its initial stages.
The company expects to mine higher-grade ore once stoping activities commence.
Additionally, the tailings produced from this initial processing phase will be stored and later reprocessed through Carbon-in-Leach (CIL) tanks once they are fully operational.
This step will enable Akobo Minerals to maximize recovery and ensure the extraction of as much gold as possible from its mineral resources.
Moving forward, the company will continue blasting and stockpiling material from the Segele mine, followed by the production of additional batches.
As production ramps up, Akobo Minerals anticipates an increase in both the gold content from the mine and the recovery rates from the processing plant.
