In a significant step toward transforming South Sudan’s mineral sector into a driver of inclusive economic growth, the Ministry of Mining convened a high-level engagement with Bianchi Gold Trading Company to explore long-term investment opportunities and strategic collaboration.

The meeting, chaired by the Minister of Mining, Hon. Losuba Wongo , and attended by the Ministry’s Undersecretary, Hon. Deng Makuok Duyak , reflects the Government’s continued commitment to strengthening governance, attracting responsible investment, and accelerating sustainable mineral development across the country.

At the centre of discussions was a shared vision for unlocking South Sudan’s mineral potential through structural economic diversification, enhanced geological knowledge, and community-focused development initiatives.

Opening the meeting, the Minister reaffirmed the Government’s position that investment in the mining sector must align with national laws, environmental standards, and international best practices.

“South Sudan welcomes credible investment partners who operate transparently and uphold responsible mining principles that benefit both the economy and local communities,” the Minister emphasised.

A key priority highlighted during the discussions was the importance of geological mapping as a foundation for informed investment decisions and long-term sector planning. Comprehensive geological data is expected to strengthen mineral resource governance, reduce exploration risks, and create a more attractive environment for future investors.

Representing Bianchi Gold Trading Company, General Manager Mr. Mahmoud Tageldin expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s openness and strategic direction. He reiterated the company’s readiness to deepen engagement through a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at establishing a framework for cooperation.

The proposed agreement is expected to prioritise nationwide geological mapping efforts, strengthen local technical capacity, and deliver community service initiatives in areas hosting mining operations.

The engagement also underscored an important policy shift within South Sudan’s mining agenda—moving beyond mineral extraction toward creating lasting economic value through skills transfer, institutional strengthening, and local development.

As South Sudan continues positioning its mineral sector as a pillar of national development, partnerships anchored in regulation, transparency, and community benefit are increasingly becoming essential to achieving sustainable growth.

Through initiatives such as this, the Ministry of Mining signals a clear ambition: to transform mineral wealth into broad-based prosperity and ensure that development reaches communities across the country.
